Helping Hands – FAQ
Who is eligible to set up a fundraiser? Parents who have had a child diagnosed with cancer. This includes children who are in treatment, in remission, cancer free or those who have passed away. For accounting reasons, we are required to contact your current or former social worker for verification.
Can a friend set up a fundraiser for a family? This is possible but the family would still need to complete a registration form. Also the funds would have to go directly to the family. Please contact us for more details.
Is it true that Helping Hands charges no platform or credit card fees? Yes, Arms Wide Open covers all of the costs of the fundraisers. You keep 100% of the donations made to your campaign. Most Crowdfunding sites charge fees between 5% and 15%.
How do I access the funds that are donated to me? We will mail checks out at the end of each month. If you have an emergency situation and need the funds sooner, please contact us.
Can I set up a fundraiser if I am living outside of the United States? Helping Hands is currently available to those living in the United States or who have a child being treated for cancer in the United States. We may add international support in the future.
Do you accept international donations? Yes, we can accept donations from most countries.
Is my donation tax-deductible? Even though Arms Wide Open is a 501c3 charity, the IRS typically does not allow tax deductions for donations that are directed to a specific person or family. There may be exceptions so please consult with a tax advisor.
